POLICY STATEMENT, STANDARDS AND PERSONAL DETAILS
POLICY
Too often personal web pages are used for self aggrandisement. Alternatively they may display the quirky nature of an individual's personality not generally seen in public.
I originally embarked upon the establishment of this site as a result of a request to supply a reference site so that a particular scientific project could be co-ordinated.
Having then established the site, I thought it appropriate to describe some of the observations being made. This grew to including various written articles, and even details of forthcoming events and expeditions. I also included information about the astronomical society to which I belong. The site has certainly grown and will continue to grow. Whilst I have drawn upon some observations that have been made in the past, I intend to principally concentrate upon current and forthcoming activity and retain the older material only where appropriate.
STANDARDS
Where possible all photographs have been imaged as JPEG files and reduced to a size that can be contained upon a 480 X 640 pixel low resolution screen. Images have been processed using 'U Lead Photo Express SE 2' and saved at 50% to further reduce file size. The final images typically range in size from 10kb to 35kb. (The usual image resolution I apply is 300dpi and 85% which produces files in the order of 200kb. If such a detailed image is required for any reason please Email me… p.e.anderson@uqconnect.net)
PERSONAL
About me… As an introduction, the photograph immediately below is of me with my first serious telescope, a 15cm, in 1958. It is followed by a photograph of my wife Evon and I taken immediately after the Carribean eclipse in February 1998. The drawing at the bottom dates from the early 60's and may just possibly be a caricature.
I have had a lifelong interest in astronomy, am now retired, and use my 41cm backyard observatory telescope to observe and time lunar and asteroidal occultations. I live at The Gap, a suburb of Brisbane, Australia. (approx 27° 30'south 153° east). The observatory is situated on a 175 metre high ridgetop on a 2 hectare property adjoining the Brisbane Forest Park some 10km due west of the city centre. The southern section of the Mount Coot-tha complex and this attached ridge which is aligned to the north west appears on maps as 'Taylor Range', and this name appears to date from 1828. It is from this name that the name of the observatory has been drawn. (Refer Taylor Range Observatory section.)
