A collection of journalistic letters in French sent to his homeland by one of the most outstanding former migrants to Queensland.

"One Swiss who became a good Australian while still retaining a strong love of his mother-country was Henry Alexis Tardent who established a family in Queensland in 1887 of which 300 descendants still survive. Many of them have achieved distinction in various fields... Henry Tardent was intensely active in politics, agriculture and literary activities. He acted as an adviser to the drafters of the Constitution in the early 1890s. In 1898, he became a friend and supporter of Andrew Fisher, the first Labor Prime Minister of Australia. Around 1911, he helped the Government prepare the Act to establish a Citizen Defence Force."
