WIN THE BERMUDA BOWL WITH ME

Win the Bermuda Bowl With Me

by Jeff Meckstroth & Marc Smith

Win the Bermuda Bowl with me The Canadian publisher Master Point Press has a winner with this first book by one half of the famous and successful "Meckwell" pair. This is an "over-the-shoulder" book in the style of the classic "Play Bridge with Reese". It is based on the 1995 Beijing Bermuda Bowl.

It is written from Jeff Meckstroth's point of view, including many personal impressions and feelings about the general aspects of playing in a world championship.

While the author does not exactly reveal all the secrets of Meckwell's famously detailed bidding system, there are a few mentions which will will alert the reader to the need to have agreements in place for many different kinds of situation. Furthermore, the reader will gain insight into this pair's general philosophy of bidding - get in fast, and always put maximum pressure on the opponents.

The hands are selected from the Round Robin and the final, and they are analysed in a fair amount of detail. At key points, the reader is invited to make their own decision about a bid or play before reading on. It will require discipline though, as the answers just follow on in the text.

For what it's worth, there are photographs of some of the world's top players, and some thumbnails of their personalities and styles gleaned from Jeff's experience in playing against them. However, there is nothing in any way controversial in these; they are just a professional summary.

The hands are not specially designed "trick" hands, and they don't all rely on triple criss-cross squeezes or the like. Most are basic hands, such as you would find every night in the duplicate game. However, you'll learn that there can be a lot of important nuances in hands like this, and that will be a key to a better standard of play
