Present Title Holder:  :  Ratu Finau Mara, is considered a likely successor; he has been invited by elders from the village of Tubou (the seat of the chiefdom) to assume the office, but to date there has been no word as to whether or not he has accepted the invitation.
 
Predecessors and Short History: Tui Nayau is the title held by the Paramount Chief of the Lau Islands in Fiji. Prior to being installed as Tui Nayau, the claimant must first be installed as High Chief upon the decision of the noble households making up the Vuanirewa clan.   • Roko Jepesa Niumataiwalu, founder of the Vuanirewa dynasty of the Lau Islands, son of Roko  Delainavuqalei, Tui Nayau. He killed his uncle Qoma,Tui Lakeba, and his sons, in retribution for the murder of his own parents and siblings, thus establishing himself overlord of both these islands, and became the first high chief or Roko Sau of the Lau Islands, married 1stly, Adi Tarau of Tovu Totoya, married 2ndly, Adi Uma of Nukunuku, married 3rdly, Adi (name unknown) of Cakaudrove, and had issue. He died at Ono-i-Lau.

  • Roko Tevita Uluilakeba II, ancestor of the senior and eldest of the four noble households in the Vuanirewa clan called Naivi, his reign was unstable as a result of internal conflicts as well as the ambitions of  Bau, he married and had issue. He was killed in battle against the Bauan forces.

  • Roko Rasolo, third Roko Sau of the Lau Islands and first installed holder of the title Tui Nayau, ancestor of both the noble households, Matailakeba through his elder son Malani, and Vatuwaqa, through his younger son, Taliai Tupou, he expelled the occupying Bauan forces and re-established his family's rule, he married 1stly, Laufitu Tonga, married 2ndly, a lady from Lakeba, married 3rdly, Radavu of Totoya, and had issue, 4 sons.

  • Roko Dranivia, he was the last member of the noble household, Naivi, to hold the title Roko Sau of the Lau Islands, possibly because he was an usurper, who seized the throne without the consent of the clan.

  • Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba III 1874/1876, Tui Nayau, married 1863, Adi Asenaca Kakua Vuikaba, daughter of Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau, Tui Viti, Vunivalu of Bau, and his wife, Adi Litia Samanunu, and had issue. He died 1876.

    • Adi Litiana Maopa, born 1864, married 1886 in Suva, Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi, born 1859, died 1920, and had issue. She died May 1933.

  • Ratu Alifereti Finau Ulugalala, Tui Nayau 1898/1934, married Adi Ateca Moceiwaqa, and had issue. He died April 1934.
  • Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba IV, Tui Nayau and Paramount Chief of Lau 1934/1966, born 4th October 1898, married 1stly, Roko Senivaivai, married 2ndly, Silipa Raikoro, married 3rdly, Adi Teresia Vuikaba of Bau, she died sp. Ratu Tevita also had a number of children by secondary wives, including (a), Lusiana Qolikoro, (b), 1934, Mereoni Veisa, and had issue. He died 4th October 1966 in Lautoka.

    • Ratu Alifereti Finau Mara, born 1960, lawyer, politician and diplomat, educated at Otago University, N.Z. (LL.B. (Law), 1983) and at Cambridge University, U.K. (LL.M. (Law), 1986); served as a Legal Officer in the Attorney General's Chamber from 1984, and later Principal Legal Officer in 1986, Chief Administrative Officer for Foreign Affairs (Fiji) 1987, Charge d'Affaires at the Fijian Embassy in Washington, D.C. 1991, he was elected to the House of Representatives in 1994,  Cabinet Minister for Fijian Affairs 1997/1999, Chairman of the Native Land Trust Board, he was appointed as Fiji's Ambassador to the United Nations in 1999, appointed Roving Ambassador and High Commissioner in 2001, has issue by his partner, Vitinia Buadromo.
