PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
The Imperial family belong to to the Solomonic dynasty, reportedly
founded by Menelik, a son of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba soon
after 1000BC. The dynasty has ruled Ethiopia since that time till
its overthrow in 1974, with a brief period when the Zagwe dynasty were
dominant. The Emperors are numbered since that restoration. Rulers

- HIM Emperor YOHANNES IV, King of Zion and
King of Kings of Ethiopia, 60th Emperor of
Ethiopia 1871/1889,
born 11th July 1837 in Tembien as Dejazmach Kassa Mirtcha, crowned as
Emperor on 12th January 1872 at Axum, defeated an Egyptian army at
Gundat in 1875, and again the following year at Gura, married Tebada
Selassie, died 1869/1870, and had
issue, as well as natural issue. He died 9th
March
1889 in the Battle of Metemma.
- Ras Araya Selassie Yohannes (by Tebada), born 1867,
married 1stly, (as her 1st
husband) in 26th September 1884 in Borumeda, HIM Empress Zauditu, and
had issue, as well as natural issue by Woizeo Walatta Takla Haimanot.
He
died 10th June 1888.
- Dejazmach Gugsa Araya Selassie,
born 1885/1888, Governor of Tigre, rewarded with the title of Ras,
married HIH Princess Yeshashework Yilma, daughter of Dejazmach Yilma
Makonnen, and had issue. He died April 1932.
- Dejazmach Haile Selassie Gugsa, Prince of Eastern
Tigre, went over to the Italian side in 1935, and was rewarded with the
title
of Ras, which was not recognized following liberation in 1941, married
14th July 1932 in Addis Ababa, HIH Princess Zenabe Worq (see below),
born 25th July 1918
in Addis
Ababa, died sp 25th March 1933 in Makalle, buried in the
Imperial family crypt
under Holy Trinity Cathedral in Addis Ababa. He died
shortly after 1974.
