PREDECESSORS and SHORT
HISTORY:
The ruler of this Taluka belongs to the Phanse Branch of the
Chandraseniya
Kayastha caste. The ancient name of Vithalgadh was Vantoo, and it
formerly
belonged to Lakhtar from which it was aquired by Babaji Appaji, the
famous
Gaekwar General, in 1806. The Lakhtar Taluka was freed from the debts
and
the Chiefs of Limbdi and Wadhwan were checked from encroaching on the
limits
of Lakhtar Taluka. Babaji also helped Morvi Thakore Saheb and received
Hadala from him. He also assisted the Babra Kathis and received from
them
Rasnal and Pipalwa and formed the present Taluka in the year 1806.The
Jurisdictional
Powers of the State are : Criminal - two years rigorous imprisonment
and
fines to the extent of 2,000Rs, Civil - fines up to the extent of
5,000Rs.
