PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
Subjugated in 1778 by Haidar Ali of Mysore, and further demands were
made in 1784 by Tipu Sultan, which were rejected. Ramdurg Fort was
blockaded and capitulated after seven months, when the ruler, Venkat
Rao, and his family were taken prisoner and sent to Mysore where they
remained till 1799. He was restored to Nargund, while Ram Rao received
Ramdurg, a division which continued till 1810. A further division was
made by the Peshwa, with the sons of Sachiv Ramrao, receiving equal
shares. Nargund subsequently lapsed leaving the ruling line of Ramdurg.
