PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
An autonomous principality founded
in the 14th century, came under control of the British from 1889,
though it was still considered a vassal of the Maharaja of Kashmir.
Acceded to Pakistan in 1947, but remained a self-governing state until
