PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
The
parent state was founded in 1733 by Meherban Raja Trimbakrao I
[Appasaheb] Patwardhan (see Kurundwad-Snr),
and represents the senior most line amongst the Patwardhans.
The state later split
into Senior and Junior lines on 5th April 1854, with Meherban Shrimant
Raghunathrao continuing the Senior Line and his three younger brothers
ruling jointly in Kurundwad Junior. The youngest brother died without
issue, and the descendants of the two middle brothers continued to rule
jointly till 1947. Till the date of merger, Ganptai Utsav was
celebrated throughout the State, even in mosques. At the time of
Merger, the State handed over to the Indian Union, just under rupees
one million in cash, in addition to the state lands and state
buildings. It is interesting to note that Kurundwad is the only line
which is without any adoptions. The rulers (from 1854) were....

he performed the first Land survey of the State in 1877; he also passed
an order allowing people of any caste or creed, the right to enter any
temple for Darshan (this credit is normally given to Rajarishi Maharaja
Shahu of Kolhapur); he was the first Indian Ruler to be asked by the
British to Rule two States at the same time, namely, his own and that
of the State of Ramdurg; married 1stly, 1855, Rani Saraswatibai
[Yogabai],
born 1843, died
1858, daughter of BAJIRAO II
Peshwa, the last Prime Minister of the Maratha Kingdom, married 2ndly,
a daughter of Mr. Mujumdar, died young, married 3rdly, a daughter of
Mr. Chitale, and had issue. He died 1899.

Balkrishna alias Bhausaheb Sulakhe, of Barshi, and had issue, 2 sons
and 2 daughters.

Kashinath Khanvilkar of Mumbai, born 1926, died 22nd
September 2005, and had issue, four daughters and one son. He died 19th
February 2007 at Belgaum aged 85 years.
- Rajkumari Urmilaraje Patwardhan, born 21st April 1944,
married a Mr. Deshmukh.
- Rajkumari Indumatiraje Patwardhan, born 9th May 1947,
married a Mr. Booty.
- Rajkumari Mangalaraje Patwardhan, born 15th October 1948,
married a Mr. Gogate.
- Rajkumari Nandiniraje, born 21st September 1950, married
a
Mr. Phadke.
