Teach Modern Jive
Modern Jive is a fun and exciting social partner dance. It is an established popular dance style in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and America. Throughout the UK and Australia thousands of people learn Modern Jive every week with many classes exceeding 100 people.
Modern Jive is a great business opportunity especially for studio teachers, and is also popular with many primary and secondary teachers as it is a dance which is:
- easy to learn - as the emphasis in teaching is on the upper body movement and as there is no intricate footwork, Modern Jive is instantly accessible for the self-confessed "non-dancer"
- fun - it is ideal for clubs and parties
- social - the Modern Jive teaching method caters to people coming on their own or with friends so partners are not necessary campatible with different styles of music - Modern Jive can be danced to virtually any music from the classic 1950s to the latest chart hits which attracts people from diverse age groups
- diversity – As a direct consequence of Modern Jive’s versatility in music it appeals to individuals from very diverse age groups from children to mature adults
- modern/casual - its image relates to the ‘man in the street’, and it is not perceived as a ballroom dance but a party dance for any occasion.
Modern Jive Teacher Training
Delivered in a flexible format for experienced dancers, practising Modern Jive teachers, studio teachers, primary and secondary teachers. The broad range of the International Academy of Modern Jive Teacher Training Courses are designed to accommodate diverse levels of dance teaching experience, skills and needs. The Teacher Training provides preparation for the ADS Professional Teaching Examinations in Modern Jive.
Modern Jive Qualifications
In the same way, the tiered level Modern Jive qualifications offered by the IAMJ and ADS enable teachers to advance their career. This unique opportunity gives recognition of achievement and professional status and instils confidence in the students (and parents) that the teacher is equipped with the skills and technical knowledge to teach effectively and safely.
The Modern Jive syllabus provides teachers with the framework to teach Modern Jive and promotes an awareness and appreciation of the unique nature of the dance. It is not prescriptive or restrictive, rather it is designed to inspire teachers, allowing them the freedom to be creative and innovative. The IAMJ provides a complete syllabus for all grades of Student Medal Tests and Professional Teaching Examinations. Qualified teachers are able to broaden their scope of work to running medal workshops, become a Medals Examiner, even an Examiner of Professional Teachers’ Examinations.
Professional Development
In addition, teachers also have available to them a range of IAMJ membership benefits that support them as independent teachers and provide professional development and interaction with other Modern Jive teachers nationally and internationally. All trained and qualified teachers abide by a Code of Conduct which provides equity between members in their dealings with each other, the IAMJ and ADS and the public.
The culmination of all these factors has served to raise the dance’s profile and identity both in the professional dance world and the public domain. The IAMJ is committed to providing trained and qualified Modern Jive teachers with unique opportunities which enhance their business.
The syllabus has raised the dance’s profile and identity both in the professional dance world and in the public domain unlike prior to the syllabus, Modern Jive is now able to cater to the wide spectrum of student and (prospective) teacher needs.
In any profession on-going training is an important part of keeping current with the latest
