  • To design/develop a procedure guide using WordPerfect 6.1 and ABC Flowcharter, for the coordinators of road gangs. 
  • To re-develop the Capital Works Cost Comparison System User Guide for marketing to other councils and external organisations.

Achievements

Designed, developed and delivered a high quality 60 minute interactive multimedia training course on CD-ROM in five days.

Responsibilities

  • To work together with nine other lecturers and teachers while on the Open Learning Institute of TAFE’s Interactive Multimedia course to design and produce (including graphics, voice-overs, video footage) a PC and Mac-based multimedia training course for the Red Cross on International Humanitarian Law to be used in the defence forces and secondary and tertiary education throughout Australia.

  • To design layout and style of new Messenger Manual in Word 6.0 using typesetting features to look exactly like the two existing manuals published in PageMaker. 
  • To add cross-references, screen captures, index and table of contents.

Major Achievement

Designed, developed and implemented a complete education program to effect a cultural change across the whole of Government in regard to cash management.

Responsibilities

  • To design marketing tools to raise the profile of cash management issues within Queensland government.
  • To design intra-Government training courses. To facilitate training course at Society of CPAs on cash management.
  • To develop slide show presentation on cash management for 1994 Intra-Governmental Accounting Conference.
  • To design and develop Cash Management Guides for Government departments and Treasury Fund Operations.

Major Achievement

Facilitated the development of new standards, procedures and checklists for incorporation to IT Handbook (Quality Manual).

  • To develop an IT Handbook containing policies, standards, guidelines procedures and checklists.
  • To fully document the operation of the Help Desk and Project Implementation groups of the IT branch.

Redefined and re-agreed scope of contracted deliverables.

  • To learn Mincom's Information Management System (MIMS) - a set of integrated modular computer packages being implemented by Council for materials management, maintenance, operations and accounting.
  • To develop and publish five (5) specialty area Supply Branch User Guides, a Supply User Guide for Depot Staff and a System Administrator Guide, with one other technical writer.
  • To develop course notes and instructor guides.
  • To publish manuals in Ventura and WordPerfect, using styles and macros to help control standardisation.

(6 months) Contract technical writer/instructional designer for the Integrated Valuation and Sales (IVAS) Project, Information Technology Branch

Major Achievement

Designed and established the departmental User Documentation Standards.

Responsibilities

  • To plan, design and produce the Property Update (PUP) User Guide, a sub-systems within the Information and Land Valuation system (IVAS).
  • To develop the courseware for the implementation training.

  • To develop specialist user documentation on the Council's new Flood Forecasting system, Prophet: Radio Telemetry Flood Warning System User Guide for interstate and overseas marketing.
  • To update and illustrate the existing user manual to include new features and enhancements to the current software following the same standards used (but not documented) in the current manual using Ventura and Paintbrush.

(9 months) Contract technical writer/instructional designer for joint Public Accounts/Information Technology Branches' Central Finance System (CFS) project

Major Achievement

Designed and developed two User Reference Manuals and Quick Reference Guide for the Central Finance System (CFS) which maintains the Queensland Government's Public Accounts.

Responsibilities

  • To develop detailed Documentation and Training Plan, including philosophy and approach, audience and task analyses, scope, constraints and time estimates and to improve Treasury's documentation standards.
  • To design, write, illustrate, proof read and edit each manual and Quick Reference from the system specifications and in close liaison with the client representatives and end-user groups.
  • To design and develop a new Central Finance System module for the Queensland Government's Financial Management System (QGFMS) Guide in liaison with the Technical Service Branch.

(12 months) Contract technical writer for Travel and Immigration Processing Systems (TRIPS) project in Systems Planning and Development Branch

Major Achievement

To design and publish six User Guides and a Quick Reference Guide for Immigration's mainframe-based airport entry and departure monitoring system, from the development system without access to system specifications.

Responsibilities

  • To estimate time and material costs. To develop a detailed Documentation Standard, including typesetting guidelines. To establish user requirements. To learn sub-systems in development.
  • To design User Guides for each sub-system within TRIPS. To develop, write, proofread, edit and publish each guide using IBM DisplayWrite 4 and Ventura. To co-ordinate offset printing with the Australian Government Publishing Service. To design cover pages and spines for binders.
  • To assist programmers to develop standard screen layouts using effective screen design principles. To advise programmers of bugs and anomalies.
