The Current Structure of ISQ

In a nutshell there are two bodies:

  1. ISQ Council - runs the skating, judges, athlete development, etc, and owns the rinks & land.

  2. The Trust - runs the Acacia Ridge and Boodall rinks, which are leased from the ISQ Inc.

No.1 Trust

The Trust was formed in 1973 by the Ice Skating Association of Queensland with the express purpose of “erecting and operating ice rinks in Queensland”. The Trust through its two Trustees, Colin E. Jackson and Donald McKnight OAM, lease and operate the rinks.

The Trust accepts the responsibility for:

  • creating and growing the wealth of the Association,

  • maintaining the viability of the ice rink businesses and

  • protecting the Association’s assets,

  • giving the profits of the rinks it leases to the ISQ Council,

  • providing assistance to skaters and clubs by means of coaching support,

  • providing and pays the coaches to conduct training and teaching classes in it's rinks,

  • running Skate School programs in it's rinks.

The ISQ Inc. owns the two rinks and Loganholme land and is the ultimate beneficiary of the Trust.

ISQ Council

The Council is the 8 member body of the ISQ which are elected at the ISQ’s Annual General Meeting, and are charged with carrying out the business of the Association, for example:

  • Leases the rinks to the Trustees, (current lease finishes in May 2009)

  • the conduct of tests,

  • regulating announcements for competitions,

  • conducts championships,

  • manages the admission to membership, both of individuals and clubs;

  • provides funds to support the judges and officials for travel to meetings and competitions, the skaters for travel, entry fees and competitions; club activities and special projects which are administered through the Athlete Development Committee;

  • the provision and training of judges for club events, and for tests. In general to support and give assistance to all members in respect of any matter they refer to the Council.

At the Annual General Meeting of the Association held on 1st March 2006 , the following people were elected for Executive & Council positions.

Sorry, this diagram is not quite correct, I will fix it shortly. Some profits are retained by the Trust to purchase land for new rinks
