It's true that the audit report says
that the ISQ needs to get a succession plan in place for the
Trustees and the Treasurer so that their wealth of knowledge and
successes are passed on to other less experienced members of the ISQ Council.
-
This is the opposite of what the "newisq"
is proposing. The "newisq" are proposing to remove all
current ISQ Councillors and get rid of the Trustees and replace them
all with new people.
-
It explained that the ISQ
has two stated purposes, one being "the establishment and management
of rinks". This is done via the Trust.
-
Over and over it spoke
about: the astute business acumen of the Trustees, their long term
success,
-
The amazing profits and
asset growth that the
Trustees have achieved while commercial rinks failed.
-
The personal
financial risks they took by putting their own wealth on the line in
the beginning, to get a loan for the first, then second rink, and
then the land at Loganholme. (Isn't this exactly how every book on building
wealth through real estate advises?)
-
The
audit praised the longevity of the Trustees and the
ISQ Councillers - not criticised them!
-
It's true that the audit report says
that the ISQ Council needs to take a more active role if the rinks
are to be used as collateral for the new rink at Loganholme. We can
do that far better if we have a succession plan that allows the
Trustees to pass on their knowledge of successful rink management.
It says the opposite of removing them.

Don't we want another Cash Cow to provide
additional public session profits
to support Athlete Development, subsidised travel to competitions,
entry fees?

Which other State
associations have the assets we have? None!
-
Where else in the world
do the skaters own the rinks? In USA there are only three Clubs that
own their own rinks - we own 2 and a possible third!
-
Many ice rinks have
failed, gone into receivership or been sold at a great loss. I'm
sure you know of some Queensland, Sydney or Victorian rinks that
have gone this way?
-
We
Queenslanders have been so lucky to have two rich blokes with such a
passion for skating and a desire to leave a grand legacy that no
other State Association has. And the “newisq” parents want to spend
it all in the next 5 years on their own kids?
-
Queensland is the only State Association with such significant
assets.
-
Queensland is the only State that could host 2 Junior World Championships,
and what about the 2001 Goodwill Games?
-
The
Trustees have 2 years to go before they retire.
-
In
that time they will give us another rink! MORE ICE!! And will train
the appropriate Persons/Board/New Trustees on how to maintain and
grow our assets further.
