Gold Mine |
| |
With adequate supply of fertilizer, vetiver
can be established on both fresh and old gold tailings with pH ranging from
3.5 to 8.5. Some liming was needed at pH 2.7 or lower. In addition these
tailings are also very high in Arsenic and sometimes Cadmium. Vetiver was
also successfully used in the rehabilitation of alluvial gold tailings in
north Queensland. |

Bentonite mine |
| |
The VS was also highly successful in the
rehabilitation of bentonite tailings which are extremely sodic
(ESP 48%) and alkaline (9.0). These tailings are highly susceptible
to wind and water erosion. |

Coal mine |
| |
Rehabilitation of highly sodic coal mine overburden
and saline tailings was also successful with vetiver in central
Queensland. |

Bauxite Mine |
| |
VS was the main technique used to stabilise
very large tailings dam walls in the Northern Territory which
were extensively damaged by cyclone in 1998. Vetiver was also
used successfully in the revegetation of residue sand and red
mud. |
