Doris is involved in grief education and support and is the author of 5 books
on the subject of grief. During her presentation Doris will provide some hints
and tips for dealing with difficult issues and saving energy by turning inappropriate
things people say into something positive.
Morning and Afternoon workshops are as listed below:
Men Experience Grief Too— Looking at the issues faced by Men facilitated by
Bob Wyborn
Men are often
expected to be “The Strong One”, “Told not to Cry” and society’s expectations
of men in grief are sometimes seen as different to that of women. This workshop
will give men a chance to meet with other men who have had similar experiences
and discuss how they have coped with their experience.
Memories— Discover how to display your treasured memories facilitated by Renita
Morrissy
Discover how
to display your treasured photos and other items of your child/children, which
can be placed in your home to share your precious memories with others. You
will need to bring your own photos and items (very small) - all other materials
will be supplied.
Knowing Why Changes Nothing— For the survivors of suicide facilitated by Olwen
Schubert
The families
of children who have died by suicide are often caused to feel guilt or shame
because of the manner of death of their child. This thoughtless attitude and
the resulting hurtful words have caused much pain to parents already burdened
with grief. Perhaps it is worthwhile considering some aspects of the death
of a child by suicide and by other causes.
The following workshop will be ‘discussion’ time. Where you can talk about
issues that affect you and to share with others. We hope that this will allow
you to gain valuable insights from one another on how to manage your grief.
Remembering your Child—General Support Meeting facilitated by Lorraine Edgley
This workshop
will allow you to share your story with others who are walking the same path.
Listen as other parents share how they are coping with the death of their
child or talk about your child and how you have coped. You do not have to
talk if you don’t want to, but generally just by being involved in one of
these workshops you will be amazed at the coping strategies you can learn
and share.
Following the workshops there will be a short
