Hi! My name is Mark Horton and I have been a musician ever since
I was 6. Starting with the piano, I have moved onto other instruments
like the clarinet, saxophone and guitar with my main instrument
being the clarinet. As well as being a musician, I get much enjoyment
out of composing which I started when I was 12.
After High School, I chose to study a course called 'Music Technology'
at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Here I learned the skills
necessary for studio and live recordings, making it possible for
me to compose and produce my own work. During this degree I teamed
up with a colleague to create multimedia / audio presentations,
such as a modernised version of "Little Red Riding Hood" and an
album known as "Anon: The New Planet". Four years after beginning
the course, I finished Music Technology with a Bachelor of Music
with Honours: Music Technology degree.
Pre-School Pops
Jobs are difficult to acquire at the best of times and Music Technology
is no exception. Instead of sitting around waiting for the phone
to ring, I began creating "side projects" to keep myself occupied,
such as composing pop songs and creating multimedia projects. Pre-School
Pops became one of these projects when one of my parent's friends
wanted a few Nursery Rhymes arranged so she could play them to her
grandson.
After a month of working on this project, I realised I wanted to
create a professional product, and would thus require the services
of more people. After ringing around, I received aid from two vocalists
(Catherine Rolph and Cathy Pukallus) and a visual artist (Helena
McNamara). The illustrations you see on this webpage is the final
product of Helena's work.
