A brief history...

I'm Sheila, and I live on a 10-acre property on the southern outskirts of Brisbane, Australia.

I was born and raised in a small country town called Turriff in the north-east of Scotland. After school, I spent four years at Gray's School of Art and one year at the College of Education in Aberdeen. I taught primary and secondary pupils in Inverness for eight years before emigrating to Queensland, Australia in 1976. I was an Education Officer in the Department of Education, Brisbane for thirteen years. In this capacity, I developed curriculum materials for teachers, and presented professional development programs on a statewide basis for a range of employees within the education system. I then spent five years as a part-time lecturer and tutor in Art Education at two Brisbane universities: Queensland University of Technology, and Griffith University. While working with university students, I was contracted to write " Living By Design - Years 6 & 7" for the Queensland Department of Education. This book is one in a series of four.
Qualifications: B.Ed.St. (U.Q.), D.A. (Abdn.), Dip.T. (Abdn.).

I returned to Scotland for the first time in twenty years in mid-1996. I spent several weeks with close relatives and childhood acquaintances in Turriff, met with former teaching colleagues in Inverness, and visited the Isle of Skye where other members of my family live. On my return journey to Australia, I spent a week in Malta with friends whom I first met in the Inverness area.

Granny aged 96
I was raised by my grandparents in Turriff. My grandfather, William, died many years ago, but my grandmother lived until the age of 96. She died January 22, 2001.

She came to Australia for a holiday when she was seventy-nine, and again when she was eighty-one. She was an inspiration to us all! I explained in my letters to her that she was featured in my Web pages, but I'm not sure if she understood what that really meant. However, I'm certain that she would have been delighted if she had seen her photograph displayed for all to see! She was called Charlotte.

Turriff in the past.

Since my return journey to Turriff in the north-east of Scotland in 1996, I have been visited by several relatives and friends from Scotland. I keep in touch with family and friends in all parts of the world on a regular basis. I particularly enjoy writing letters in the traditional way, but I also take advantage of being able to keep in touch with people on a daily basis through e-mail. I also "talk" to people every day in my favourite Internet chat room, and on ICQ or Voice Chat ( links provided later).

My other pages focus on my living environment and the things that are of interest to me, so leap-frog to one of them now.
