The dried flowers of the red clover produce a volatile oil and a soothing tea for promoting sleep. This is also taken medicinally as an expectorant for respiratory disorders, and to treat skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. An infusion, taken externally, soothes burns and sores. The flowers make a good wine, and yield a yellow dye.

Red clover should be sown in spring, and prefers a slightly alkaline soil.
