Bergamot has traditionally been used to make a relaxing anti-depressant tea which can also be used to treat nausea and flatulence. An infusion is inhaled for colds, or used as an antiseptic for ulcers, wounds and acne. It is included in pot-pourri mixtures and as a perfume in cosmetics.

Bergamot is found wild on the banks of streams and shaded woodland areas. It prefers rich moist light soil in sun or partial shade. It is sown in spring, or mature plants can be divided every 2-3 years.
