Media ReleaseMonday 29 September 2003 The Environment and Poverty To Be Focus of Address The Catholic Justice and Peace Commission of Brisbane and the Social Action Office of the Conference of Leaders of Religious Institutes Queensland will host the Second Common Wealth for the Common Good Address in Brisbane on Thursday 16 October. The two organisations hosted the Inaugural Common Wealth for the Common Good Address, delivered by prominent Catholic and NSW Community Services Commissioner, Robert Fitzgerald, last year to mark the tenth anniversary of the landmark report on wealth distribution in Australia issued by the Australian Bishops. This year's address will be delivered by Ms Christine Milne who is a member of the Advisory Council of Catholic Earthcare Australia and Oceania's representative on the Global Council of the World Conservation Union. The address is titled Common Wealth for the Common Good: The Moral Challenges of Shaping a Sustainable Earth Community and will focus on the links between poverty and ecologically unsustainable practices and policies. The address will be delivered at the O'Shea Centre, Lovedale Street, Wilston, at 7.30 p.m. Sr Mary Tinney, Coordinator of Earth Link, and Mr Mark Copland, Executive Officer, of the Catholic Social Justice Commission of Toowoomba, will also make responses to Ms Milne's address.
