Kath.net - is a service from Austria. It includes Church news updated daily with images and summary lines on the front page. It provides an alternative to the US and Italian perspectives that dominate most Catholic news services. The obstacle to many of course is the German language. There is an English translation of some stories, but it is updated infrequently, and web translation services are a better means for English-speaking readers to access the stories. Recent stories deal with the Catholic Church and the Holocaust and the attempt of liberal Austrian Cardinal Schönborn to combat religious indifference in Europe with 'city missions'. There is a story on cloning and extraterrestials that is better left to the imagination than the translation.
