PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
Originally
only one of a number of petty states in the area, which established its
authority about 1358, it was the predecessor state of Tehri-Garhwal.

- Raja MAHIPAT SHAH 1622/1631, changed the
capital from
Dewalgarh to
Srinagar and consolidated his rule over most parts of Garhwal, married
Rani Karnavati and had issue. He died July 1631.
- Raja PRITHVI SHAH 1631/1660 , nicknamed Naktirani,
married and had issue.

- Raja FATEH SHAH 1684/1716, fought against Guru Gobind Singh
in the
battle
of Bhangani fought on 18th September 1688, married and had issue. He

- Raja PRADYUMAN SHAH 1785/1804, died January 1804 in the
battle against
the Gurkhas at Khurbura in Dehradun, who remained in control of Garhwal
till 1815 when the British drove them out, (his brother, Pritam Shah,
was
taken in captivity to Nepal by the Gurkhas), however only a part of the
recovered lands were returned to the son of the dead Raja. He made his
capital at Tehri and was the first Raja of Tehri-Garhwal.
