Noticeboard for Australians Abroad

This noticeboard is intended for Australians living abroad wishing to broadcast a message, typically of a non-commercial nature. Examples of things that might appear here include: seeking to find fellow Australians in a certain area; looking for a good pub (good luck!); asking for advice regarding buying/selling/renting; announcing an event (eg the AFL grand final night); etc etc. Basically it should be treated like a noticeboard you'd find in a tea room / lunch room.

If you have a message you want to appear on this page please email Don Simonetta who shall pin your message on the board within a few days.

The opinions expressed in the following messages are from readers of my page(s) and are not necessarily mine.

Warning: unfortunately spammers like to scavenge email addresses from noticeboards such as this one. With this in mind, please consider which email address you supply when requesting a message be pinned here.

US without a work visa/greencard, and then were able to find work once there, get contacts
and be able to stay legally. I often hear about musicians and actors, etc, heading to LA to
seek work and do auditions and I always wonder 'how' they are doing it without proper visa's etc.

Any advice via email would be greatly appreciated, cos this is my dream and I just want a chance to get there.

I would like to introduce an opportunity for Australian young people willing to explore the Italian
culture living in a family in Italy. I run a friendly, tiny au pair agency in Turin, North of Italy,
that places females/males (less requested) in Italian families any time of the year, for long and
short stay (summer).

The au pair arrangement is excellent if the person is prepared to fit into the life-style of a
family and make herself useful. Being an au pair is an extremely good way of gaining more knowledge
of the country, its culture and language. The au pair is expected to help looking after the children
and with the various household duties in the family.

She/he will receive an application form to fill out and email me back with the required documents,
in case they decided to apply. As soon as I have more information about the applicant, I will be
able to match her with the right family and she will have all the details of them, such as salary,
working hours and so on. There are many professional families in Italy looking for a lovely English
speaking au pair expected to take care of the children, playing and living with them. They are ready
to welcome her, also if she does not speak Italian.

No agency fee is requested (only the families pay). The au pair will be charged for the cost of the
travel and of the language course, if she wishes to follow one.

As the Public Relations coordinator for Agora Gallery, I would like to announce our
upcoming Collective Contemporary art exhibition which may be of interest to you.
The exhibition will showcase the paintings of Janelle Fenwick, an artist living and
working in New Zealand.

Agora Gallery, located at 530 W. 25th St. in Chelsea, is pleased to present Collective
Exhibition: Contemporary Art at its Best. The exhibition presents art from an
international spectrum of artists, featuring fantastic and mathematical surrealism,
dream-inspired art, and abstractions that are both atmospheric and sculptural, possessing
an instinctive force and allure of timelessness.

Painting in an abstract style, Janelle Fenwick creates the sensation of being in the
present moment of the painting through her bold colors and thick, painterly style. Her
work ranges from abstract and airy, with beautiful use of negative space, to brooding
and dark with intense color combinations. With intriguing wit and subtle dynamism,
Fenwick’s paintings lure the viewer inside each canvas, telling us a timeless story
through pure color.

Click here to view Fenwick's art: http://www.agora-gallery.com/ArtistInvite/Janelle_Fenwick.aspx.

The Collective Exhibition: Contemporary Art at its Best will be on display August 12
through September 1, 2006. Reception takes place August 17, 2006, from 6-8 PM at Agora Gallery,
530 West 25th Street in Chelsea, New York. For more information please visit

process of having medical exams, police checks and going for the ever
daunting interview at the American Consulate in Sydney (Ours is set for the
28th June 2006). We are trying very desperately to make this happen for us
as it has been our dream to live and work in the U.S. We have some money to
take with us, but we are going in blind folded, unsure what to expect - to
the interview and then onto America if we are accepted. We either need to
have enough money to financially support ourselves once we are over there
for 4 months or need a sponsor. My hubby is a Construction Project Manager
at present in Melb and we would love to here from anyone willing to sponsor
him so we can go into this interview with proof that he can get a job or has
a job in The States once we are approved. If anyone can help, please email
me, Im desperate to hear from you. We are not concerned at all where we go
in America. Please email me also if you have been through the Green Card
Lottery process and you can give me some in-sight on what to expect, like
how much money they actually want us to have, what they ask you etc etc.
Thanks so much.

things etc. Anyways, I'd love to hear from anyone, local or not. :)

Naughty Australiana-themed underwear created by Byron Bay designer Caryn Gillespie have
snatched the Australian Memento Award for 2005.
The Awards, held last month, reward outstanding designs of distinctively Australian gifts.
The winning design, out of over 100 entries, entitled Love Your Lawn features a cheeky
kangaroo nibbling at a strategically placed piece of well-cared for ‘turf’. Other styles
in the range include designs not typically iconic Australian, yet still very much influenced
by Australian culture. Gillespie's award-winning design and other merchandise can be found

I am an Australian currently working in London at a
magic circle law firm, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
as the Scientific Officer for the litigation
department. I possess a Bachelor of Science
(Microbiology and Immunology) and a Bachelor of Laws
and wish to work on litigation matters in New York such
as the tobacco litigation (as I am currently working in
this area now) or other matters of product liability
such as pharmaceuticals.

I would be grateful for any assistance people could
provide in regards to obtaining sponsorship and more
specifically a science related legal position.

Hi, my name is Laura and I am an Australian actress hoping to move to LA within
the next year. I'm posting this notice in the hope that someone may be able to help
me with sponsorship or give me some advice about finding a way to get a work visa
over there. I've already had work in a couple of American films and a TV show...
but they were filmed here in Australia.
Please help me find a way to follow my dream in the States!!
